Severe Flooding & Landslides Sweep Trinidad and Tobago-Ways You Can Help!

Trinidad and Tobago Needs Support in the Wake of Widespread Flooding That  Left Many Homeless & Stranded.

Trinidad and Tobago experienced severe flooding and landslides after a down pour of rain that have left many families homeless and stranded in its wake. According to Prime Minister Keith Rowley,

‘This is a national disaster, the flooding is quite widespread and quite severe and it is going to cost a lot of money to bring relief to people who have been affected. Nowithstanding whatever shortages we are experiencing, we will have to find resources to help.’

Parts of the country were completely under water and there are widespread reports of landslides and road blocks caused as a result. The Coast Guard and Defense Force, aided by the efforts of many citizens were able to help stranded families escape the flooding in their homes. Amidst the flooding , the country was then hit with two earthquakes. One on Saturday October 20th and another on Sunday October 22nd.

According to the University of the West Indies (UWI) Seismic Research Center, the first, smaller one occurred on Saturday, around 4:41 p.m. That magnitude 4.2 tremor struck 166 km northeast of Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago. Then on Sunday afternoon, at approximately 12:35 p.m., a 5.1 magnitude quake was recorded 78 km northeast of Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago; 161 km northeast of Arima, Trinidad and Tobago; and 181 km northeast of the capital, Port of Spain.*

The long road to recovery has only just started. There are citizens of the country who are now faced with the stark reality of having no home, electricity, food, clothing, school books for their children and the list goes on.

Please consider supporting relief efforts in any way you can. (See below…scroll button at the bottom)
