Dominican Singer, Navy, Takes Her ‘One Shot’ At Musical Success
This week’s Karibbean Kreative On The Rise is Navy PBW ; a singer from the island of Dominica.
Navy has a musical brand that is unique as it is groovy. A blend of hip hop and soul music that still maintains authenticity and tribute to her Caribbean roots. Navy works with the Pretty Boy Worldwide label which has expanded her reach as a Caribbean artiste. However, despite her growing global reach she still celebrates her Caribbean roots through her music and by advocating for singing in Creole ( a historic language of the Caribbean that was created by slaves).
At the core of her brand is authenticity as is highlighted by this recent quote in magnetic mag that says, “I don’t want to sound American, I don’t want to sound British, although I can, but being yourself is going to take you where you need to go.”* It helps that she has the support of her label Pretty Boy Worldwide that ensures that her culture and identity remain an integral part of her musical representation.
Navy just released a single called ‘One Shot’ which showcases the Caribbean. She was also recently featured as one of the Women in Music, for Clarks’ campaign.
