Bayou Bachannal; New Orleans Carnival 2016

On November 5th, 2016, New Orleans celebrated its Caribbean Festival entitled Bayou Bacchanal. This annual event falls under the umbrella of activities of the Friends of Culture movements and is held at the Louis Armstrong Park. The day is a melting pot of activities and cultures as cultural enthusiasts dance to soca in their costumes while onlookers participate in the revelry. There is always some extra treats of Reynold Kinsdale on the steelpan, Marissa Joseph with the Bounce Fitness movement and Keisha Huggins with the Fet-ness soca fitness group. The Friends of Culture mission is to ‘provide a cultural link between the Greater New Orleans area and the island nations of the Caribbean. Through this link, Friends of Culture shares the rich and festive traditions of the Caribbean with the general public through its hosting of Bayou Bacchanal: The Original Caribbean Festival of New Orleans, highlighting Soca music and dances of the region.’
