He began his musical career in the 1980’s on the popular ‘Black Star Sound System.’ Anthony Malvo continues to remain consistent and current in Reggae music over the course of his decades long career. Anthony Malvo recorded his first number one hit single entitled, “Come Back to Me” (featuring Tiger) on the Winston Riley label , Techniques. Malvo continued with numerous hit songs like “Can You Stop the Rain,” “Ready or Not,” “Sensi” featuring Josie Wales, “Greatest Gal Lover,” and “Jump and Spread Out” both featured Daddy Lizard. “Jump and Spread Out” made the American Billboard chart back in the 1980s, which lead Malvo and Daddy Lizard to perform in the legendary Apollo Theater in New York City. Malvo continues to record and produce. He has mentored and produced songs for his daughter Tiffanie Malvo. He has also released new music featuring himself, like “So High,” “Nice to Know You” featuring Delly Ranx, “Giggle Pon This,” also featuring Delly Ranx, and his big Lovers Rock song on the Love Child Riddim, “I’ve Been Waiting For.”
In this episode of Branding Bloopers, Anthony talks about how his love for the music overshadowed his knowledge of the business side at the beginning of his career. With time he learnt how to master both the business side and the music side of his craft. In his opinion, at the end of the day, musicians also have to eat and pay bills. Malvo cites passion as the one ingredient that got him through the ups and downs of a career that spans over forty years and at the end of it all he wants to leave a legacy of music that stands the test of time.
