Sister Carol’s name is often cited among the list of influential women in reggae.

  1. She is also known as the Black Cinderella (also the name of her record label)
  2. In an interview with Kayla Kush she was asked about her mentors. She mentioned ‘Hortense Ellis, Judy Mowatt, Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths, Cynthia Richards, and Miss Louise Bennett (Miss Lou). Just by observing how they approached their craft gave me an inspiration to venture into my own.’ *
  3. Her father worked in the music industry as a radio engineer, and in 1973, he moved the family to Brooklyn in search of work. **
  4. Recorded for the Jah Life label, 1984’s Black Cinderella was the album that established Sister Carol in the international reggae community, featuring the title track (her signature song) and “Oh Jah (Mi Ready).” **
  5. Obtaining a Bachelor Of Science in Education. It has certainly enhanced my writing ability and communication skills as a teacher who once taught in the classroom but is now teaching the world at large.*
